What is a VTC?

To begin with, let's define the "VTC", since in Spain that category includes also services like Uber and Cabify. VTC is the Spanish acronym for a private hire vehicle. According to Spanish regulations, they are defined because the passenger decides the starting and end points of their trip (unlike other transportation services like buses, for example). Unlike taxis, they must be booked in advance (not on the street), and the price is established before the beginning of the trip; this gives the client the security of knowing the cost in advance. Uber and Cabify: limitations for long trips

Uber and Cabify operate in Spain under VTC licences, and therefore they are included under this category. It should be noted, however, that both services have limits when it comes to long trips: in Uber's case, its website advises that trips can be automatically terminated after four hours. Meanwhile, Cabify warns in its website that its service is designed for cities, and it considers any trip longer than 80 km as a "long" one.
